2017 International Volunteer Managers Day Blog Carnival

upcoming-events

This year’s theme for International Volunteer Managers Day is “be the voice” and I’m thrilled to share the voices of 12 leaders of volunteers from five different countries (Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, USA). Some you may have heard of and some may be new; that’s part of the fun of a blog carnival!

Before I get to the main point of this roundup, I’d like to share a bit of context. The idea of a blog carnival came about at the 2017 National Summit on Volunteer Engagement Leadership in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. Several of the leaders featured here participated in a session led by Susan J. Ellis and Rob Jackson called Sticking Our Necks Out: Bloggers in Our Field. One of the shared goals that came out of this session was encouraging readers of our individual blogs to read others’ blogs and diversify their perspectives. I believe that leaders of volunteers (and any professional, for that matter) should be learning from a variety of people and sources so that we can form our own opinions. Combined with volunteer engagement best practices and personal lived experiences, learning from others can help us be better advocates for our volunteers, the field, and ourselves.

So, in the spirit of learning from others, please enjoy the following blogs. I encourage you to leave comments and share these posts with others so that our collective voice can be heard around the world. (Remember to use #IVMday17 when sharing on social media!)
